In February, 2000, I was lucky enough to make another trip to LA. This time round I flew down by a charter airlines (I'm a fan of charter airlines because they are so cheap!)
I went to see the Getty Museum because it was free! It was a relatively cheap trip because I stayed at the Santa Monica Hostel, and I even managed to score a free ticket to a movie and another to the Donny and Marie Show.
Here is a pic of the museum gardens and a copy of the front of the brochure. Great museum to go to, I recommend it! LA doesn't always have to be expensive. (Though I did splurge and went to Disneyland again)

Speaking of adventure travel, my fav reality show (and really, the only one I can even bother to watch) is of course,
The Amazing Race 9 Yeh!
At one point they had a choice (called a detour) to either take a helicopter ride or to build a motorcycle. What would you pick? Without even thinking, I'd chose helicopter! Yes, I love flying, but come on, wouldn't it be difficult to put together a motorcycle?
Besides, the helicopter ride which will land on top of a highrise, just sounds so more adventurous and even Jame Bondish.

Here are two pics of Blaenau Ffestiniog. It is kind of like a ghost town, many houses are boarded up. They are taken from slides, which is why one is slightly marked.
Here's some quoted info I got about it from http://www.nwt.co.uk/english/snowdonia/blaenau_ffestiniog.htm
| Quote: | Blaenau Ffestiniog was once the capital of the slate quarrying industry. Now, one of the old quarries has been turned into a major tourist attraction.
At Llechwedd Slate Caverns you can take the Miner's Tramway into the side of the mountain and into a succession of spectacular chambers where a miner describes the working of the mine.
Alternatively, you can ride down the underground cliff railway into the dramatic Deep Mine, and experience the audio-visual presentation as a miner from long ago takes you through the various chambers.
The narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway links Blaenau Ffestiniog with Porthmadog on the coast. The ride is spectacular as the line twists and turns its way through the countryside.
Ffestiniog Power Station at nearby Tanygrisiau was the first pumped storage station built for the CEGB - an example of modern technology set against the dramatic backdrop of old slate quarries. There is an exhibition, and tours. |

Here is a pic I took at the 20s and 30s celebration at Warsaw in June.
I at first found Warsaw not so nice as in Krakow...it has a more Communism feel to it. But, then I found this fun event and I really got to like my time there, even though it was short.

About the Tower Bridge
|
|
|
Here is a pic of the Tower Bridge, taken from my 2001 trip. That trip I was in England from April 7th until the 21st, 2001.
I spent 1 week in London, and the rest in the Southeast of England in April- around Easter time. Not as nice weather as in the summer, but the cost of flying over was cheaper. I stayed at the YHA hostel at Earl's Court.
This particular day, I wondered around London (I like wandering around cities). I am not sure if I went to see the Tower of London or the Battleship HMS Belfast on this particular day.
I think I did visit them on the same day, because I have recorded what I did each day...and the Tower of London and Belfast, which are in the same area, were listed on April 20th, 2001. I am glad that I recorded it as I have done on other trips. I am not usually a good record keeper, but for travels, I tend to record so that it is easier to remember afterwards.

Loch Ness
|
|
|
Here's some more memories of Scotland.
I took a tour of the Loch Ness area with Discover Loch Ness Tours. It was actually quite a good tour. Not really touristy as you might think..more about area and it's history, then Loch Ness Monster, which is good. We even got to visit a Croft in the hills. Even though it isn't cheap (£28), it is an entertaining way to spend the day. The lake is a lot like lakes you find here in Canada, because, *surprise surprise* the trees you see in the hills are imported from Canada. There's a lot of Canadian Connections to Scotland..ie Prime Minister Mackenzie..etc.
Sorry, I'm just joking around with Nessie, he/she is really not a bad monster. I just shouldn't be trying to feed wild animals, as one will inevitably get bitten.
Tommorrow, I'll post pics of the most famous Castle on the lake. Can anyone figure out what the name of it is?

Isle of Skye Postcard

|
Here is another memory from my 2002 UK/France Trip. Most of my photos have not been seen by many. I had posted some of the pics at my Yahoo site, but these I haven't yet. On this particular trip, I used an amazing 25 rolls of film for a 8 week trip (2 or 3 of those rolls were slide film). Of course, with my digital camera, I far surpassed that!
These are 2 pics of my Kyle of Lochalsh ferry ride. I was on a mini-van tour of the Isle of Skye, and we took the toll bridge over and the ferry back to the mainland. (What you see in the first pic is of the mainland, NOT the Isle of Sky, as I have written on it- my error) You can get to Isle of Skye if you go west from Inverness, past Loch Ness through some of the most beautiful scenery that you can imagine. We have ferries like this in British Columbia. And of course we got typical Scotland weather, stormy.

Watch out for Sheep

Sorry that I haven't posted for a little bit, I have been a little under the weather....I hate cold/flu season.
Here's a pic of how adventurous it can be to drive on the sideroads in Scotland. Reminds me of driving in a National Park in Canada..except, instead of Elk, there's sheep.

Yeh, Canada got it's first gold in Moguls.
Here are a couple of items from when I volunteered at the BC Summer Games in 1987. It was held in Delta, BC (near Vancouver). One of my volunteer jobs was to keep score of diving, and you can see me at the Delta Pool. I can't remember what my other job was...seems so long ago..
I remember staying in the Lower Mainland for a month at my Oma's and Opa's place..and made some extra money babysitting and housecleaning.
