Hi again,
I just got a pair of used downhill skiis from a friend- this is the first pair of downhill skiis that I've ever owned. (I used to own a pair of Cross Country Skiis in High School) They are basic, but no more basic then rental skiis that I have been using in the past. I also got bindings and boots, though the boots are a size too small, so I am going to either have to find a used pair at the local Ski-Swap in November, or try to get some on sale in Spring at the end of the ski season at the local ski-shop.
But, either way, it beats having to rent them all the time..save on money and time.
I am happy.

My lift ticket for Sunday
|
|
|
|
Hi,
Skiing was great on Sunday..I was being a little kind to my knee as it's still heeling. (I went to the Dr., and it's ok, just takes awhile to completely heal) So, it took me half the day to get my skiing legs back....and hey! I got a free refresher ski course from my very talented skiing buddy, Magnus. That helped me, When I first started for the day, I really sucked, it kinda looked like I had never skiied before. I've been skiing yearly since '88.
For the first part of the day, I skiied with the people I came out with that day. In the afternoon, I then joined another friend who only wanted to ski for the half day....
The temp was right, -5 or so, so the snow didn't go soft..and it had snowed the night before, so there was fresh snow to ski on. The only hting is that there was a lack of snow, so on the bottom of some runs, I had to ski through some willows. Hah! Speaking of skiing, it looks like I finally have my own pair of downhill skiis. Magnus's wife is giving me hers skiis, bindings and boots..she has the same size of feet. And I believe the skiis are 160s, which is the perfect length for me. She hasn't used them for a long time. It'll beat having to rent them.
The other pic is of the old priory in Lewes, UK. Here's some background on it. I got the following bit of information from http://www.allaboutsussex.co.uk/default.asp?id=placestovisit213:
| Quote: | Founded by William and Gundrada de Warrenne in 1077, the priory of St Pancras was the only Cluniac monastery in Sussex. Once holding fifty-six churches in the county, this was the greatest house of Cluniac monks in England.
Destroyed after the Dissolution of the Monasteries by an Italian engineer (he was employed by the king's commissioner, Thomas Cromwell), what was left was further damaged when the Lewes to Brighton railway line was laid through the site in 1845. The tombs of William and Gundrada were discovered during the construction of the railway and as a result of the interest generated, the Sussex Archaeological Society was founded in 1846.
The remains of the founders plus original tomb furnishings (these had previously been moved to Isfield church) can now be found in the neo-Norman chapel which was built on the south side of St John's church in Southover High Street in 1847.
Amounting to little more than the foundations and although they are now fenced off, the remains of the priory can clearly be seen. |
For the summer, it looks like I'll be hiking with Magnus and group at the Cathedral Lakes, which borders on the US. It'll be a challenge and who knows what the weather will be like in June, but I'm going for it. More info about that later,

Foto Challenge 105- Cats
|
|
This is also for Elayne, and my other cat friends.
Here's my contribution to the latest photo challenge at Fotopages, Cats.
The first pic is of a friend of mine who lives in Bath, UK. Her cat just loves closets.
The next two pics are of the Bohm family cat in the southern German town of Klingenthal.
The other two are of big cat (Cougar or Puma) prints. Too bad I wasn't quick enough to take pic of the actual wildcat.'

Sunday Skiing
|
|
Yeh! The snow's here!
And I get to go skiing tommorrow at Purden. http://www.purden.com/ski/wintersetup.htm
There's also Powder King that one can ski around here, but that is a much longer drive out..2 hrs each way. I was going to do a half day with a friend, but some other friends from same group are doing the full day, so I'll just meet my other friend when he comes in at noon.
As I am not going to be bringing my camera out..here's a taste of where I'm skiing. These Purden pics are taken a few years ago. That particular year, I had the misfortune of 'falling off the chairlift', but the snow saved me from getting injured. Since that year, they have put new padding on chairlifts, so not so easy to slide off of them.
There are pretty good runs here...2 chairlifts...lots of choices. I just hope my knee will be alright..it's healing pretty good, but still a little bit sore.
Wooo hoooooooo! Here I come...

Brighton Beach 2001

Beautiful Brighton Beach
|
|
|
This is the first place I saw in the UK , on my first trip overseas- I took the Airport Express bus from Gatwick to here instead of to London, because it was a quicker trip, and Brighton seemed not to be so overwhelming as London would be after my first long flight.
And what a beautiful place to start a trip! I even brought back a rock from this beach. A friend from London that I met while walking the South Down's Way in 2002, is from Brighton.
While in Brighton, I stayed at the local IYH hostel just north of the city, in Patcham. I remember there being this great bakery near the hostel, it always smelled so good walking by there to catch the bus.
My 2001 trip to the UK was only 2 weeks long, but still, it was a good trip. I spent that trip looking around the southeastern and south part of the UK. I also spent a week of it in London...

This is where I stayed in Lewes in 2001. Very nice place, and a very nice lady who runs it. I couldn't stay at her place in 2002, because it was full, but I made a surprise visit on my way through.
I loved her garden

High Street

I've been lucky to have been in Lewes, UK, twice. Once in 2001, and then I returned by foot, in 2002. Lewes is most famous for it's Guy Fawkes celebrations in November of each year.
These pics are from 2001; I didn't take many of any photos when I returned in 2002, as I was just too tuckered out from walking all day from Alfriston to do much afterwards except lay on bed and watch some tellie.
This is for my friend Elayne, whose husband grew up in Lewes. Don't worry, I'll post more pics of Lewes when I get the chance.
The sign says:
| Quote: | | Though it is recorded in history that King George IV when Prince Regent drove a coach and four down Keere Street for a wager, access to and from High Street is now forbidden |

My little obsessive Interest
|
|
Hi.
For many years I've always loved flying. Just for an example, here are 2 relics from 1998 trip to the Vancouver Intl. Airport (YVR) I believe that Air Canada doesn't fly the jets you see anymore.
The next is this splurge that I did. I have had dreams for years to own collector diecast models of planes, but would never get them because of the cost. In Berlin, I finally let myself purchase a 737 Hapaag-Floydd plane.
This past week, I then splurged when I saw the same Easyjet 319 plane that I flew twice in 2005 in Europe. Here are some of my shots of it, one with my Easjet Boarding card from Berlin to Krakow in the distance. You can see my blueish Hapaag-Floydd plane as well. I'll do a closeup of that later.
Then, there are real photos of the actual G-EZAM plane that it is copied from. You can see how detailed the model really is. It was delivered in August 2004, I may have flown it to Krakow because it's been seen there.
2 are shots I took, one of waiting at Berlin Schonefield Airport on way to Krakow on June 23rd, 2005; the other, on the flight from Berlin to Bristol UK on July 15th, 2005.

scenic shots

Here are a couple of scenic shots of Chilkotin again. This is classic cowboy country (The Germans love it!)
I tried taking a shot of the Aspens in B&W, because I love Ansel Adams B&W shots and I wanted to see what my attempt would look like. Not so good. I'd love to spend a weekend in the fall taking lots of shots of Aspens...
