Banners and the like
|
|
1. Here is another banner that is on 3rd Avenue. I wonder how many children entered to have their artwork put up in front of the public. Must be kind of cool to them, to have so many people seeing their 'masterpieces'.
2. Here's another shot of Portmerion. Here is the famous beach that you see alot of in 'The Prisoner'.
3. Here's a picture inside the Louvre in Paris. I remember that his parent's didn't speak English..and that they were from Spain, or around that area....I like this shot, it looks like the statue is keeping an eye on the boy.

PG and Portmerion
|
|
1. Besides the Spirit Bears, I also saw that the City put up banners on the lamps with art created by Children, depicting the spirit of Prince George. I have posted one right now..will post more later.
2. There is also a very nice mural with a Northern First Nations Theme, I think that it spruces up downtown a bit. This gives you a taste of what life is like up here in Northern Canada.
3, 4, and 5 In a totally unrelated matter, here are 3 shots taken in Portmerion, Wales, in 2002. These particular photographs were filmed using Slide Film, but a friend was nice enough to scan them onto a CD.
This is where they filmed an episode of Dr. Who, and the most famous show filmed here, The Prisoner As you can see in the last shot, I even made it to Number Six's residence.

From my walk
|
|
We have this cool ice rink downtown by our Civic Centre...it isn't that big, but it doesn't cost anything to use. Unfortunally, I don't have a pair of skates.
Considering how warm it has been, I am surprised how solid it is.
Then there is our clock tower, and I snuck in a pic of Big Ben that I took last year.

Spirit Bears III
|
|
Hello,
Here is the final Spirit Bear that is out there at this time. It sounds like there may be more made in the future.
This one is 'Harmony in Nature' , and was created by Kenneth A. Ferris. This is my favourite because of the many paintings inside this piece of artwork. I have taken a few pics of these paintings inside of this painting. They look great all together, but also look great on their own.

Spirit Bears
|
|
Hello,
Here is another Spirit Bear that I found.
This one is 'Ursa Major: The Blue-Berry with Rosehips' , which was created by Maureen Faulkner.
The one I posted yesterday, 'Spirit of the Ancestors' was created by Peter George.
These bears are helping to fund BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities which overlooks many services including Easter Seals. As I know a few people who had used their services when they were younger, I think that this is an important charity to help..and this to me makes the Bears project even more special.

Spirit Bears
|
|
Yesterday, I took a walk and my feet led me to downtown. I noticed the Spirit Bears that I had heard about. Sort of like individually decorated mooses, or cows that many cities have displayed.
The Spirit Bear is special, here is a quote from http://www.spiritbearsinthecity.com/index.php/content/overview_princegeorge.html
"Found only in British Columbia's northern forests, the rare "Spirit Bear" or "Kermode Bear" is widely recognized for its unique white colouring. A First Nation legend states that the Raven, their creator, made these bears white as a reminder of the time when the world was pure and clean and covered with snowdrifts and ice blue glaciers. Raven promised that these bears would live in peace and harmony forever. "
Here is the first one I found, 'Spirit of the Ancestors' , and the plaque that goes with it.

Polish Postcard
|
|
The other day I got a postcard from the family in Poland who currently lives in the house that my Dad was born in 1933.
They were amazing! When I came to the house, they welcomed me in like family. Even though they spoke no English (sometimes there would be someone there who spoke some English), we managed to communicate and they even shot video footage of my visit there.
The message in Polish on the back of the postcard basically says Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I have a Polish friend who can translate for me (she translated my letter to them in Polish- I sent that in Sept- this postcard is a reply of sorts), but I instead picked up as many of the words as I could decipher and translated them on the web....

Hello, I am having problems with my Fotopages. There is mention of a new server being added soon, so hopefully that will fix the probs. Though, I am not sure if I want to stay here or move to Flickr.
---
I *finally* have been able to upload some pics. Not that I've been around here of the late. It's hard to get motivated with camera. Winter is always the quietest time for me....been walking as much as I can...to get as much light as I can.
Here are some pics of London, taken in 2005. I have been in London several times now, and this time round in 2005, I really explored around the Parliment Buildings, Big Ben, and the Millenium. I looked at the price of getting a 1/2 ride on the wheel, and it was outrageous! I got as just as good view of London from up top of St. Paul's Cathedral, and the price included a full tour. Much better deal, I'd say.

It's all downhill from here.

|
Well, 2006 has arrived.
It's a pity that I don't post here as much as I should, it seems that there are quite a few people who come here. Amazing! Thank you for all those who come to my pages, it's helping me keep motivated to keep posting, though I do feel that I am not putting all that I can into it...so hopefully it'll get better. Though, it will be nice to get outdoors to get a chance to take some good pictures..today would have been a perfect day to do something outdoorsy in the country.
Here are some not so good photos of some winter fun. I tried to take a picture when it was lighter, but my batteries on my small dig camera died. So, eventually, I made my way back to the hill nearby. Wish I was a kid again! It looked like everyone was having so much fun.
-----
I haven't written much because my life has been rather quiet of the late. I spent New Year's Eve with some friends..we watched a movie and then played Chinese Checkers. I had too much to drink to actually concentrate on playing the game....
I do miss going out each weekend to camp and hike, as there were always things happening, good or bad, so there were always stories to tell about or pictures to show. Nothing right now, my motivation has been down because my life is rather boring at the moment.
Speaking of adventure, some fellow hikers of mine, went snowshoeoing last week, and got stranded while trying to make it to a cabin. They had extra food, but the stuff that they brought for staying at the cabin, had to be cooked (pasta and sauce) so they had to survive on chocolate bars, nuts, grapes..etc, for the night.
There wasn't enough snow for them to dig out a snow cave, so they dug themselves as much into the snow as they could Apparently, there was not supply of dry wood, and they thought because it was snowing heavily, that it wasn't worth lighting a fire. They had a verrry lonnnnng night as the sun set around 4pm and didn't rise till 8ish next morning.
Then, they walked back out (6 hrs in and 6 hrs out) to their cars.
Hmm, that was another story, though I wasn't in it.

It's been a wacky weather year again!
We had no snow for Christmas, and it felt like I was in Vancouver, except that my family isn't around.
I took a pic on Christmas Day and all that is on the ground is puddles.
I just took a pic of outside now, and believe it or not, it's finally snowing. A bit late, but what can you do? I might be able to take in some Skiing. Actually, I do believe that we'll get some winter in 2006, as it is inevitable. I have been invited to do some winter activity On New Year's eve and day..but I have not decided what to do then.
Only 2 days of work left, before another 3 day weekend. Wish every work week was this short.
