Future Houseboats?!!
The Ocean comes to PG.

After having such a balmy week, it's suddenly gotten very cold again. We have a little bit of snow on the ground at this time. And it's not so warm being outside, brrr.

But here is a reminder of how nice it was last week.

The first shot is of this housing complex. It's placed at a very stupid place, on the banks of the Nechako River. Looks like a scenic spot, but it wouldn't be such a nice place if the river became real high suddenly. And we got some seagulls...these are a group that never sees the ocean. There is a intererior gull colony west of here near Fraser Lake.

Then there's a nice shot of railtracks, but no train.

Oh yeh, Happy Easter. My Mom is here for 2 weeks, so that is why I'm not here as much as I should be.

-> beautifully captured...

I took a longer bikeride out to Wilson Park, which is in city limits, but doesn't feel like it.

Such a nice day to be outside!

I saw a Woodpecker, probably a Downy.

A cowardless Act

Who would steal from the disabled?
A disabled friend of mine who is in a wheelchair and has Celebral Palsy lives in a low-income disabled housing unit.

Recently, some contractors were hired by the complex to renovate his place, ie put in new flooring. While it was being renovated, he lived at his Mother's place. When he returned, he found that someone had walked off with his 27 inch tv.

What kind of person would steal from the disadvantaged?

I am trying to convince him to file a police report..because of he doesn't, the person who stole the tv will do it again...thinking that it is an easy steal!

What do you think? I can't believe that someone would do this to someone?

The pic of the tv you see, is not his tv. That one is mine. He had a bigger one then I do and it was an RCA.

Day 14 Oregano

My Oregano is coming right along, though there are some sproutlings that don't look normal.

I planted a few more seeds the other day, so more will come up later.

I was going to go snowshoeing/hiking today, but if I didn't need them, I'd have no place to stick them in or on my daypack. I need a smaller pair of snowshoes and a daypack that can accomodate small snowshoes. I only really have 1 good daypack for hiking, and it's not the biggest. I'll have to save up for them..though I need to buy a new pack this year.

So bummers, stuck in stinky bowel of city. I can't believe that I've not had a day off since I came back from Europe. I took Thurs off this coming week, because my Mom is coming up to visit...and work, well, it's work, boring. But it pays my rent and food. I might bike up University way today and check the trails out..might still be snow or at least mud. I'll take my camera along.

Carolyn:-)

Thanks man

Day 11growth
Warning! Highly addictive
My Oregano is growing! Not all the seeds sprouted, so I may plant more on the other side of the pot..I'll wait till this weekend before doing that. Haven't found any peppermint/spearmint seeds yet..the search continues.

And here's some highly addictive chocolate Easter eggs for you. Once you have one, it'll be easy to finish the bag off. Some Easter stuff is not so addictive, like the Creme Eggs, they are too sweet or too rich for my tastebuds.

It's alive!

It's alive!
Hah! My first attempt at growing some herbs indoors seems to be paying off. Right on schedule, the first sprouts have popped up out of the soil. Amazing!

Let's hope more come up and the oregano becomes a full plant....

I guess I have the green thumb.

Daffodils

I've splurged a little and bought some Daffodils from the local grocer's.1 They seem to lighten up the place and make it feel even more like Spring is in the air. I don't know, is it officially Spring already? Doesn't count here, as being up so North, Winter can 'sneak' it's way back for a bit still, even though it's April now.

I love taking pics of flowers..I should print up a pile of cards and sell them at the local market..people would love them.

I was tempted to buy some houseplants that were on sale today, but I must be picky on what plants to get as my place gets alot of direct sun and gets quite warm in the Summer. Maybe only a Cactus will do.

Speaking of pictures, I FINALLY cleaned out one of my memory cards. Believe it or not, I still had photos from Finland and Berlin on it! Am I the only one who is like this? Keeping photos on card for a long time? I had to 'double check' that I had already burned them onto a cd.

Though, I think I will be getting an Aloe Vera Plant...those come in handy and are fairly easy to keep.

Spring is in the Air!!

My Purple plant from a cutting.
My attempt at growing Oregano
I can tell Spring is in the air. More daylight now. I know how warm my apartment will be in the Summer, because I am facing Southwest. I am already getting a lot of direct light into here in the afternoon.

I'm in plant heaven because of it.

I am trying to grow some herbs, and my first attempt is with some Oregano. (I mistakenly marked Basel on it!! I just noticed) I'll also take a pic when it sprouts..and perhaps as it is growing. I planted some last Sunday. Too bad I don't have a balcony, but with having birds, I was lucky to score this place.

I also have a somewhat blurry shot of a plant that I got from a cutting last year- from a house I was housesitting- a somewhat stressful month for me. But I got me a bit of their purple plant. I took 2 cuttings, but the first one died...as I didn't let it root for long enough in some water.

Speaking of photos..a friend sent me a 'card' featuring a flower photo I took, just to show me how good it looks. So, after researching here in town, and online, I decided to order some blank cards from www.shutterfly.com. Not cheap, but will make a nice gift. No one in town seems to make blank cards or notecards.

what to do with old technology?

What to do with them?
I've got a 'kazillian' music cassette tapes, and I don't know what to do with them.

It is an accumulation of a collection that I started in the 70's. I have a tape deck still, but it's in the bird room, has sucky sound quality, and is very dusty and dirty inside and out. The top cd-player is unusuable. And I prefer the sound quality of my decent computer speakers...which includes a sub-woofer.

I think the time has come to have to dispose of them at Value Village. There's some good memories in them though, so it's not that easy to do.

Gobo and her eggs

Must be the bright light in the apartment or something. Gobo's going through her 3rd egglaying cycle, and again, the eggs are unfertilized. I'm going to have to buy some white marbles to keep her happy..

Not good for her to lay so much..there's 4 in each batch..

And here's a pic of my little barenaked birdy, Wicket....
