Here's a picture of a witch that my late Oma's sister has...it reminded me of my Oma, because she had something similar also at her house.
It must be Spring! I've been out helping out people with their computers, and I also went skiiing last Sunday. I've finally recovered from that. This all means I'm not at my computer or home as much...but that's how it is like for me in the warmer months.
On a side note, I noticed the BC ferry that I wanted to take in June has sunk! Hope they can find the 2 missing people and I hope they have a replacement ferry by June... time will tell...

Ice Windows
|
|
I live an older apartment, from the 1960's. It doesn't have the latest windows...and it suffers from moisture condensation. When it gets cold, the condensation freezes into lovely patterns, though it is a pain in the ass cause I can't see outside.
Here is some shots of the patterns.
Sorry I haven't been around much. It feels like Spring is in the air, even though it is still chilly. The days are getting longer, thankfully. Even though it 'feel's like Spring, I'm going skiing at Powder King tommorrow. Sort of like one last 'hurrah'!
I've been busy with a fantastic new program called Photo Story 3 by Microsoft. I am currently creating a musical slide show for DVD for family, using Europe photos. Wow! I'm running in hyper mode at the moment.

There's the Rockies!
|
|
|
|
Here are some more pics of PG. The main part of the city is situated in a bowl. Because of the close proximity to the 3 Pulpmills, probably isn't the cleanest part to live in, but apparently it is not as polluted as it was 20 yrs or so ago.
Prince George started out as a Hudson's Bay Post- Fort George and was incorpororated as Prince George in 1920 or so. Currently 80,000 people live here, and it is the most populated northern city in this area. The closest bigger city is Edmonton or Vancouver- which are about 500 KMs or so far away.
We are only an hr or so away from the start of the Rockies. In the third photo you can see them behind the smoke stacks. I've enlarged that section in the second photo. Also, in the third photo, you can see a small hill in the centre, that's Connaught Hill, which I've been up many times and is a great place to watch fireworks, when they have any.
On the top right of the third photo is a plateau (with some mountains close by in the background), that's where our airport is located. That's also where highway 97 goes south towards Vancouver, which is at least 8 hrs drive away.
It sure was a nice day.

Hi there,
Here are a few of the photos that I promised to show of my walk on Sunday. I figure now that I must have walked at least 8-10 kms return, which isn't too bad. And I got my uphill exercise.
Still quite a bit of snow in the hills. The road you see is the road to our local university, University of Northern British Columbia. I am not walking straight up, but up along the road.

Do you notice our lovely potholed roads?

More Grand Canyon
|
|
Here are the remaining pics that I chose to post here for last week's snowshoe trip. In the one pic, I drew a red arrow(s) on it..the left hand arrow is where some of the people snowshoed to, but could only go so far because of open river at one point that was too large to jump across of. So they had to backtrack where you see the other arrow going to get around. Luckily, because I was slower, I avoided that!
Today, I decided to stay in town, but I still wanted some exercise and 'fresh' air. So I walked a good few kms (9-10? Roundtrip) up to the local University, which you can see in the distant from my apartment window. It is such a nice day! Sunshine, not too cold, so could you ask for more?
I took some great shots of PG, and you will get a good idea what it looks like around here and how far I walked to get the view. I will be posting that this week.

Here are some more pics from the trip. I had so much fun that day, despite the hard work.
I've got the travel bug in me again. I am planning a 2 week trip or so, down South to do a hike with a group, then after being dropped off to catch a bus, make my way to Vancouver and then to visit family. Afterwards, I'd grab a ferry ( http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/inside/ip-current.html ) from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. It's a 15 hr journey.
Then I'd catch the train next day to Prince George (a 12 hr trip!). http://www.viarail.ca/en_index.html
Whew! Am I crazy, or what?

Grand Canyon of the Fraser Part II
|
|
Ok, here are some more pics of the snowshoe trip. I had a great sleep last night, I passed out by 9:30pm as I was so exhausted.
I forgot to mention that while eating, we heard a crying sound. Some thought it was a pissed off squirrel, I thought it might be a bear cub, but it is too early in the year for that.
I think now that perhaps it was a cougar or a cougar cub from last year. Or even maybe the elusive lynx. Pretty cool, eh?

A new Adventure!
|
|
Hey, finally! I have new material to post here.
The only sucky bit, is that I noticed later on during the day, I got a fingerprint on the lense and did not notice it. So some of the later pics got a 'foggy looking' spot on them.
I was too tired to notice.
We snowshoed 12 km return. I've done this snowshoe before and have also hiked in the area during the summer. Of course, we can only go alongside the river during the winter. As expected, the last few kms were the hardest. I just don't have the endurance. And, yesterday, I was tested for iron levels to donate blood, and it was at 9, which is way down compared to the normal of 12, so I expected to be a bit more tired today. The last little bit, I tried it without the snowshoes as the soft snow was building up on them, and it was hell! I was cursing every long section, because I was expecting (hoping) that around the corner was the hill to the homestretch. But it wasn't there for many long stretches. I started taking lots of little breaks and eventually gave in and put the snowshoes back on. My friend, Noel, was nice enough to carry them for me. I was running out of 'steam'.
Then, there was the hill! And I gave her all I had...and still had to stop for breaks. When I finally saw the car, I made a quick dash.
Here are the first few pics, I took at least 50 shots today, my camera was happy to be used!

Here are a few pics from Santa Monica. It's a great central location to stay at. The YHA hostel is pretty cheap and is only 2 blocks from the beach! How good can you get. And there are lots of cheap eats around.
To get around locally, I used the local transit system, which is dirt cheap. Getting out of the area proved to be a challenge, because the area transit system really isn't that great. Though, becaue I am not an experience driver, I don't know if I'd want to risk driving around in LA, or not.
If I'd ever return, I probably would rent a car, but I wouldn't stick around LA for long, I'd leave the city and explore around the countryside.
